Still Life Painting like the Old Masters

Learn the techniques of Titian and other old masters. Using oils (preferred) or acrylics, we will work through the processes of underpainting, grisaille, layering and glazing to achieve a beautiful and timeless three-dimensionality. Drawing experience recommended. Previous experience with paint is helpful but not necessary. Come to the first class with materials ready to work. Portrait and Figure Drawing and Painting

This continuing portrait and figure class is for both drawing and painting students. One, two, or three session poses with nude and clothed models each quarter. New students are welcome and strongly encouraged to work in charcoal and pencil to build up drawing skills. Continuing students may progress to oil, acrylic, water media or chalk pastel. Drawing and painting topics demonstrated and individually addressed, including basic block-in, composition, measuring, proportion, foreshortening, anatomy, value, color, layering and brushwork. Secrets of Color

You’ve had basic color theory, now to put it into practice! Gain a deeper understanding of the effect of light on color with projects designed to increase observational and practical skills. Each week we paint a single object under different light and color conditions. Oil paint and a palette knife preferred, acrylic and palette knife OK. Previous enrollment in Secrets of Color or Painting the Still Life with Color and Light recommended. Materials list online at http://www.communityarts.org.
